Tessa - Microwave Jenny - What It Means To Be A Woman

In light of International Women’s Day on Sunday the 8th of March, I’ve asked some of the amazing women in my life to share what it’s like to be woman.

I’ll be highlighting a variety of women from different backgrounds, careers and beliefs to bring you a selection of just how awesome being a woman is.

Wahoo number 7 on my inspirational women's list, is the everso gorgeous Tessa from the wife and husband singing duo Microwave Jenny. I remembering watching them sing on tv at The Deadly awards many years ago and thought these two are the cutest

I've loved following her journey over at @tessathamesofficial where she takes the best photos of her daughter Molly - the most CUTEST kid. I also love her fashion flare and how she's not afraid to get dressed up in whatever the heck she wants just to have a cheeky lil photoshoot 🙊 Not only is she a singer and a bad ass mama, she also runs her own photography business over at @tee.click - check her out, you'll love her

What makes you feel empowered about being a woman?

It's hard too pin point what makes me feel empowered as a women. I don’t think I’ve ever not been empowered. I love my family and they are the greatest support network I have and will ever have and they have always made me feel like i can do anything. Being a women doesn’t necessarily empower me, just being me and having the people i have around me empowers me, as a person. As a woman, I love that we get to help create and give birth and become mothers and still get up and carry on with life after the fact! Pretty freaking amazing! Cause that shiz ain’t easy, but we do it! Because we are stronger than we think!

What has been your most proudest moment in your life? Whether that be in your career or personal life.

Starting and finishing a national tour at 30 weeks pregnant.

Why is it so important for women to support each other?

As I already said women are stronger than we think. But we do do SO MUCH! Sometimes we get so buried under the things of the world that we are just drowning in media “ I should be’s” like I should be looking like this, I should be shopping here, I should be eating this, I should shave my ankles cause I look like a clydesdale. We are strong, but sometimes we need reminding!!! Remind your sisters they are actually spectacular, remind them that no one is perfect, remind them that you love them for who they are are and not what they look like or what they own. Remind them of that time when you also had hairy ankles like a clydesdale, remind them to laugh remind them that tomorrow is a new day. And for the women out there hustling, there's that quote “supporting another’s success won’t ever dampen yours” #strengthinsisterhood.

What's your go-to self care to feel like a queen?

There's this great article by Brigid Delaney titled “We need to move on from self-care to something that cannot be captured by capitalism”. Basically saying shouldn’t we be moving on from this concept of self care to a broader and way more inclusive notion of collective care? I think we are burning out, especially women, self care for me is letting others care for me. Brigid carries on to say self care is “I need to look after me” while collective care is saying “we need to look after each other”.

By all means have a break and go get a hot chocky and have a moment to yourself. But wouldn’t it be better if someone got that hot chocky for you! You know what I’m saying hehe
